We all listen to music according to our personal conditions. But in order to be able to analyze more clearly the whole auditory process we will divide it, as it were, into its constituent parts. In a sense, we all hear music on three different planes. In the absence of better terminology, they can be called: 1) the sensual plane, 2) the expressive plane, 3) the purely musical plane. The only advantage to be gained from mechanically disintegrating the auditory process into these three hypothetical planes is a clearer view of the way we listen.
